So as not to spend Christmas starving they want to swap their cigarettes with the French for something to eat. They hit take a ceasefire, lay down their arms and face the enemy in no man's land. A miracle happens in the most godforsaken place on earth - soldiers from rival nations celebrate Christmas together in the death strip.
