Six films will compete for the XVII RTVE-Otra Mirada Award at the San Sebastian Festival’s 71st edition, to run from 22-30 September. RTVE, official sponsor of the event, presents this award every year to a feature film reflecting subjects related to the reality of women in all spheres. Films directed, starring or written by men and women creators, whose works address different topics from a gender point of view.
Sitting on this year’s jury are Chelo Aparicio, board member at RTVE; Chelo Loureiro, film director and producer; and Ane Abalde, Director of Art and Heritage at the Kutxa Fundazioa.
Competing for this award in the Official Selection are the titles: All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt, by Raven Jackson (USA) and The Royal Hotel, by Kitty Green (Australia). The contenders in New Directors are Hi, Mom, directed by Ilia Malakhova (Russia) and Achilles, by Farhad Delaram (Iran-Germany-France). Participants from the Perlak section are Rosalie, by Stéphanie Di Giusto (France); and from Zabaltegi-Tabakalera, Quitter la nuit / Through the Night, by Delphine Girard (Belgium-France-Canada).
The award will be presented on Saturday 30 at the Festival closing gala.
The films competing for the award are selected by the Festival from among those having their premiere at each edition. Last year it went to El sostre groc / The Yellow Ceiling, by Isabel Coixet, while a special mention went to Corsage by Marie Kreutzer.
RTVE will hold two galas in San Sebastian to screen previews of the films in which they have a participation, Chinas and La ternura. It will also release four titles in the Official Selection (Un amor, El sueño de la sultana / Sultana’s Dream, O corno / The Rye Horn and They Shot the Piano Player), plus one in New Directors (La estrella azul / The Blue Star) and Cerrar los ojos / Close Your Eyes, by Víctor Erice, a Donostia Award Screening.
