Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Since she founded the production company Haut et Court in 1992, Carole Scotta has become a benchmark in the world of production and distribution in France. She is currently forming part of the Official Selection Jury. Asked what criteria she applies to her work on a jury, she says that what she asks of a film is for it to surprise her and to transport her somewhere she has never been before. The great advantage of being a jury member at a festival like this is that you are watching films that you have no references for. As for whether her work on a jury is comparable to what she does as a distributor, since she is determining what kind of cinema reaches the public, she admits there is some truth in that, and she also thinks that a profile like hers is important on a jury because when you give an award to a film you are starting its commercial distribution phase.
She acknowledges that festivals still have a useful role to play in providing an outlet for different types of films as the market for cultural products is increasingly large and competitive, and films have to compete against series, musical events, and new publications. In the midst of this maelstrom, the positioning that a film festival provides for a film is very important.
