Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
The Spanish director Pilar Palomero is no stranger to the public, as her first two films, Las niñas (2021) and La maternal (2022) have received numerous awards.
She is competing once again in the Official Section of the Festival with Los destellos/Glimmers, that tells the story of how Isabel, thanks to the determined efforts of her daughter, gets closer again to her ex-husband, as he faces the final stage of his life.
At the press conference held yesterday after the screening of the film producer Fernando Bovaira admitted that he was the one who had read that book that moved him so much and had thought of transferring it to the cinema, while the director felt that she had been really faithful to the book it is based on: “It is a film about decent people and about love, with a capital L, between human beings. Hopefully it may make people reflect on care in society, beyond the immediate family circle.”
However, both the producer and Palomero stressed that it was never a ‘commission’. “It was an offer,” Bovaira said. Palomero explained: “For me, the book was a door that opened up. I made it my own all right away. So much so, that I shifted the action to the village of my childhood, Horta de Sant Joan.
