Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Cate Blanchett appeared before the media as soon as she landed in the city to receive what will actually be the first Donostia Award at the 72nd San Sebastian Festival and responded to a wide variety of questions about her career. She said that she relied on her instinct when accepting projects: “I run on instinct as if it were gasoline,” and she also claimed that she never takes awards lightly. “When a culture that is not yours appreciates your work, it is profoundly meaningful. I am enormously grateful”.
As for the roles that had marked her the most, she said that she had worked with some wonderful directors who often saw something in her that she hadn’t seen herself, which is what happened in Tár, by Todd Field.
Asked about her acclaimed role in Carol, by Todd Haynes, she recalled how difficult it had been to produce the film at the time because of its LGBTI theme as no one wanted to finance or distribute it, but that fortunately nowadays there was a lot more diversity in how sexual identity was represented on the screen.
