Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
French cinema’s well-regarded first rugby team will play a friendly game at the San Sebastian Festival on Saturday 21 September. Some 40 members of the Le Quinze de la Pelloche association, made up of professionals from the French film industry, will visit San Sebastian and play a match against local club Azeri Zaharrak in the neighbouring town of Hernani. The match will take place at the Hernani Club Rugby Elkartea’s Landare ground at 18:00 (La Florida industrial park, no. 152).
The non-profit association, created in 2019, has 160 associates to date, including technical staff and professionals from the fields of film directing, production, sales and distribution, as well as actors and actresses and film students. They meet every week to train, prepare for upcoming matches or simply to enjoy a game together.
Its ranks include professionals from companies such as Charades, Les Films du Worso, Dark Star, Audiens, Srab Films and Diaphana Distribution. The team also includes professional rugby veterans.
"We try to offer a different vision of the cinema based on the values of rugby, solidarity, fair play, determination and, finally, the third half, where we like to eat, drink and sing along with our opponents after the game”, says Pierre Mazars, president of the team and co-founder of Charades, a leading company dedicated to the production and international distribution of films.
According to Mazars, Saturday’s match will be their first at an international film festival, and although they dream of playing in Cannes one day, it seemed "natural" to travel to the Basque Country, "one of the best rugby regions in the world", for their debut. As for the “strong links” between sport and film, he believes that “teamwork is crucial”. “Everyone needs the support of their team-mates and at the same time each player has a specific role to play if the team is to win. It's like a film set! And don't forget the afterparties," he jokes.
Le Quinze de la Pelloche promotes values such as integrity, respect, passion, solidarity and diversity. The club currently has a men's team which compete in the Fédération Française du Sport d'Entreprise (FFSE) championship, a women's rugby team and a touch rugby team.
