The San Sebastian Festival and the Sociedad Estatal Loterías y Apuestas del Estado (SELAE) have created a competition for short films on social issues coming with a first prize of 10,000 euros for the winning work and a second of 5,000 euros for the runner-up. A total of six short films selected from all those submitted to the competition will compete for the Loterías Award. The goal of the new competition is to use the audiovisual medium to send positive and heartening messages advocating the redistribution of wealth, the elimination of inequalities and social justice. The theme of the short films must be related to social issues such as wellbeing, the fight against loneliness and the improved quality of life for the elderly, support for women victims of gender abuse, those in a situation of vulnerability or cancer patients in need of social and economic assistance
