Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
The French filmmaker Claire Denis has had her work screened at numerous festivals where she has won several awards. At San Sebastián she competed for the Golden Shell with High Life in 2018 which won the FIPRESCI prize, and this year she’s back in San Sebastián as the president of the Official Jury. She says that judging films is quite different to presenting them at a Festival, and she acknowledges that her responsibility is especially important as she is the president of the jury, which means that as well as assessing the films, she also needs to try and understand the people she is working with. She also says that her way of making films probably does influence the way she watches films and that this has a lot to do with the act of sharing films. She loves to discover films in a cinema with people, and not on a computer screen. She really likes to share films, not just to talk about them afterwards, but also when she sees them, which she prefers not to do on her own. “This is precisely what being in a cinema provides you with: you can hear people breathe, you can see their reactions for yourself and witness their sincere applause…”
