The 22nd Nest Section focuses on encouraging and supporting works produced by young talents by showing their short films at the San Sebastian International Film Festival.
Nest will take place in September within the framework of the 71st edition of the San Sebastian International Film Festival.
The section is open to the works of students attending intermediate or advanced level film schools in any country in the world.
Each school may propose a maximum of three works completed in the 12 months prior to the start of the Festival (September 2022 – September 2023). No premiere status required.
Students will not be able to submit their short films themselves. Short films must be registered by the school.
The works shall have a maximum duration of 30 minutes and shall be presented in their original language with English subtitles.
Registrations should be made online from June 1st to July 3rd, 2023, from www.sansebastianfestival.com.
The short films will be forwarded to the Festival in the following way:
The decision of the Selection Committee regarding the selected works will be communicated in the first fortnight of August by e-mail.
The selected works shall be sent to San Sebastian International Film Festival before September 1st in DCP format.
All copies must carry English subtitles, except English versions that must have subtitles in Spanish.
When the original version is not in English, the Festival will provide additional electronic subtitling in Spanish. To do this, the Festival will require an MP4 of the final original version of the film with subtitles in English and the corresponding list of subtitles which will be for the internal use of the Festival and completely confidential.
The screening of this electronic subtitling will be carried out by the subtitling company hired for this purpose by the Festival.
Each selected school will receive an invitation including accommodation and accreditation for a certain number of students.
The presence of the selected film director will be required, and one student not related to the film to sit on the jury. It is preferable that this student has knowledge of English.
The selected works proposed to the Selection Committee will be made available to professionals in the Festival’s video library and will be included in the official Festival’s catalogue.
The selected short films will be added to Tabakalera's Medialab archive. Since 2008 Medialab has been working on catalogizing the shorts screened in the section.
A specific jury will be responsible for choosing Nest Award.
The Nest Award carries €10,000 gross, going to the director of the winning work.
Any doubts arising from the interpretation of these rules and regulations will be solved by the San Sebastian International Film Festival Management.
