The French director Justine Triet has come to San Sebastián to present the film that earned her the Golden Palm at Cannes this year: Anatomy of a Fall. The film starts out as a thriller about the death of a man who falls out of a window but ends up as a courtroom drama. It shows how the detectives on the case accuse the man’s wife, who is a successful novelist, of his murder, even though the evidence is dubious. In her fight to prove her innocence, the film makes quite clear that she has to face up to numerous prejudices as a woman. The director explains that, ”she not only enjoys the success that her husband never had, she is also unfaithful to him, she is bisexual and on top of all that, she’s a foreigner. That is, she is someone who rejects social norms, which in the community that she lives in makes her the perfect culprit.”
