Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Joachim Lafosse, who won the Silver Shell here for best director in 2015 has been inspired by the so-called Hissel Affair, concerning a lawyer acting for parents of children killed by the paedophile Marc Dutroux, to make his latest film Un silence which he presented yesterday in the Kursaal. “ I realised that I could make use of this case to describe this evil crime and its consequences” the director explained. He said he was aware that a news item couldn’t be automatically turned into a film and this is why he created three new fictional characters: a lawyer with a terrible secret; a son who knows nothing about this and a wife who has kept silent about it for 25 years. “I hope my cinema isn’t moralistic but I do have a moral compass,” Lafosse confessed after being asked about the wife’s possible complicity on not revealing her husband’s secret.
