Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
A photo of a bearded woman taken in the late 19th century has inspired the second feature by Stéphanie Di Giusto, Rosalie which was shown at Cannes in the Un Certain Regard section. The director explains that she found this photo disturbing but at the same time rather touching; she felt that it hid a secret that she wanted to investigate. She researched into her, and read that she had always refused to be a circus freak. On the contrary she wanted to lead a woman’s life despite her hirsutism. Although the story is set in the 19th century, it has clear links with the present. The director explains that Rosalie accepted her femininity by challenging the prejudices of her time. She wasn’t a victim but turned her singularity into an element of pride, which really connects with young people today.
