The first edition of Spanish Screenings On Tour will translate into an unprecedented demonstration of the Spanish audiovisual industry and talent at Ventana Sur, Latin America’s biggest audiovisual market taking place next week. From 28 November to 2 December, the Buenos Aires gathering will boast the presence of more than 100 national professionals, mainly from the fields of production and international sales.
Aiming to encourage the attendees to expand their contact network and generate new business opportunities, and with the slogan ‘Spanish Audiovisual: Talent and Future’, Spanish Screenings On Tour will promote a series of professional activities and meetings. As well as the pitching sessions for projects in the different sections of Ventana Sur, we will run themed working breakfasts for each section at which their representatives will have the chance to interact with potential international partners, a co-production meeting with Argentina and Uruguay, and happy hours and cocktails to foster informal contacts.
Conferences, presentations and round tables have also been organised on subjects such as the international promotion of emerging talent and digital creation, while a presentation will be given of the next edition of Spanish Screenings Content (Malaga Festival 2023) and the projects selected for MAFF 2023. Members of the Spanish delegation will participate in other activities organised by the market, such as a panel on Ibero-American co-productions. Other proposals encompassed in Spanish Screenings On Tour are presentations of the Spanish Audiovisual Bureau, Next Lab and La Liga, as well as a conference on the process of producing the animation movie premiered at Annecy Festival, Unicorn Wars.
Spanish Screenings On Tour will have a large stand at the market, the Spanish Screenings Lounge, on the 2nd floor of the UCA (Catholic University of Argentina), a space in which international professionals can meet representatives of our industry and team. Ventana Sur will also provide the setting for the filming of a new episode of ‘Spanish Screenings 360. The Podcast’, on first works and their international distribution.
Spanish Screenings On Tour will show productions in all sections of Ventana Sur. The twenty-one projects selected will have a specific space for their official presentation in the different sections of the market, giving an excellent idea of the strength enjoyed by our audiovisual industry in areas such as animation, fantasy and horror, series, or the gender point of view. The projects can be found in all sections of Ventana Sur: five in Animation!, five in Blood Window, five in Punto Género and five in Solo SerieS under the labels of Anímate, Spanish Screamings, Spanish Screenings Perspectives and Spanish Screenings Series. One project will also be presented in Blood Window Fant.Latina and two WIPs will participate in WIPs by Annecy , the Annecy Festival programme for Ibero-American animation feature films at the post-production stage.
In addition, five works in progress, eighteen completed films and forty-two productions looking for remake deals will be available online for accreditation holders in the Video Library. Finally, twenty-one recent productions and three Market Premieres will be screened: the latest movies from Álex de la Iglesia (El cuarto pasajero /Four’s a Crowd), Álex Murrull and Dani de la Orden (42 segundos / The Final Game) and Carlos Saura (Las paredes hablan / Walls Can Talk), which premiered at the RTVE Galas Section of the San Sebastian Festival, not previously screened at international markets and presented by Spanish sales companies.

Completing the Spanish presence is a selection of video game projects in Ventana Sur’s Maquinitas section. The video game market, with a programme dedicated to fostering the production and professionalisation of the sector, will have two panels and three masterclasses organised by Games from Spain, the initiative of ICEX España Exportación e Inversiones, given by renowned professionals and outstanding experts from the Spanish video game industry on behalf of companies such as Mango Protocol, Moonatic, Pendulo Studios, Pentakill, Tequila Works, TLR Games and The Game Kitchen.
The Spanish programme at Maquinitas will cast a light on the industry scene in Spain with a look over the video game ecosystem and an analysis of the peculiarities of its narrative, turning the focus on the influence of regional identity and the relationship between the project development process and the success or failure of the final product.
In addition, the Games from Spain Videogame Screenings, curated by Eurídice Cabañes de Arsgames, will revolve around three genres widely differing from one another: horror, narrative and art. With more than 70 screenings, the ‘El terror toma los mandos’, ‘Narrativa: Juegos que cuentan’ and ‘Lo bello en juego’ showings will highlight the potential of Spanish gaming and its ability to revamp the traditional audio visual genres , to reinvent the narrative and to offer a fun experience, building bridges between tradition and innovation and between the entertainment industry and culture .

Spanish Screenings on Tour is one of the four branches making up Spanish Screenings XXL alongside Spanish Screenings Content (Malaga Festival), Spanish Screenings: Financing & Tech (San Sebastian Festival) and Spanish Screenings 360, a programme of actions running throughout the year which also includes the future creation of a virtual promotion and business platform.
Spanish Screenings XXL is an initiative promoted by the European Funds of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. It seeks to boost Spain’s role as a European audiovisual hub. Thus, with the Ministry of Culture and Sport through the ICAA, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation through ICEX, the Malaga Festival and the San Sebastian Festival, in 2022 this event adopted a new format to become ‘Spanish Screenings XXL, an international market for Spanish audiovisual production’.
This programme to increase the international reach of Spanish audiovisuals receives a new boost in 2022-2023, with a wider diversity of contents and volume of activities for adapting to the new challenges of the audiovisual industry.
