Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
The San Sebastian International Film Festival expresses its categorical condemnation of the intolerable aggression of Ukraine by Russia, in what constitutes a flagrant breach of international law. The war started by the Russian Government, an attack against a sovereign State, is already generating victims among the citizens of Ukraine, which have been suffering bombings, persecution and the forced and mass displacement of its population since 24 February. We want to state our solidarity with the people of Ukraine in the face of this humanitarian tragedy.
We cannot make all the citizens of a country responsible for the decisions of their governments. Often, as is the case of the thousands of Russian citizens who have taken to the streets in protest against the war, these citizens not only disagree with their government’s decisions, but also fight against them.
For all these reasons, we will always rely on the power of the Festival as a loudspeaker for dissident voices, which seek to express themselves artistically in countries hostile to this right, thereby encouraging democratic debates across the international arena. Those Russian voices that oppose the aggression committed by their country will always have a place at the San Sebastian Film Festival.
We would like to end by expressing our desire for the re-establishment of international law and peaceful stability in the zone with a view to guaranteeing the wellbeing of the Ukrainian population.
