Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Juliette Binoche gave a press conference in the Kursaal yesterday before the ceremony where she received the first of this year’s Donostia awards. It served to provide an overview of her career in both Europe and Hollywood where she has worked with some of the very best contemporary filmmakers. She was inevitably asked about working with the late Jean-Luc Godard and she recalled how she had a difficult relationship with him but that he made her understand that the director is not always someone who is there to help you. She had kind words for Julia Ducournau, who she is currently shooting a TV series with: “She is the best example of how you can still find genuine artists in contemporary cinema.”
As for whether she believed there were still interesting roles for women of a certain age, she said that she’d been lucky in this respect but acknowledged that in the USA she’d often been offered roles as “the wife of someone” which she had no interest in, and she stressed that you had to know how to reject roles in which you’re seen in a certain way so that you can work outside sexist codes
