Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Emmanuel Carrère is best known as an author although he has also directed the documentary Retour á Kotelnitch, and has adapted his own novel “Le moustache” to the cinema. He is currently in San Sebastián to present his second fictional film Ouistreham starring Juliette Binoche in Perlak.
Asked about the differences between working as a writer and directing films, he says that writing is a rather lonely job that can sometimes even become stifling. Directing a film, insofar as it involves teamwork, can be really stressful, and is much more tiring than writing novels, but at the same time, it is something really pleasurable, and is a task that gives him a feeling of comfort that he rarely feels when he writes.
He also says that he was interested in ensuring that the relationship between the writer working undercover in the world of cleaning women and the cleaners themselves reflected the interaction between Juliette Binoche and the group of nonprofessional actresses that he chose to complete the cast. He was really surprised by the link she established with the rest of the cast, to such an extent that at times he had the feeling it was she who was directing the film and not him.
