Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
At a press conference he gave yesterday afternoon Johnny Depp said it was very touching to be receiving an accolade as prestigious as a Donostia Award. He expressed his undying support for the Festival and for the city of San Sebastian, “for not buying into a notion of me that doesn’t exist” and stressed that this was a real festival, “it’s about the films and not just schmoozing. I feel humbled to be here and always like to come back.”
Asked about whether he felt safe in view of the cancel culture that certain artists are exposed to on the social networks, Depp confessed that, “the situation is very complex - this instant rush to judgement based on polluted air that is exhaled. It’s mindbogglingly bewildering”. He also referred to the movements that have come out with the best of intentions but that he claimed had now got so far out of hand that no one was safe. Asked about how the industry had evolved since he began, he said that Hollywood isn’t what it was. He thought that it had been condescending and had grotesquely underestimated the audience, and that the coronavirus had made the movie-making machine aware that it had design flaws, something that he was glad he had realised beforehand.
