Johnny Depp received the second of this year’s Donostia awards in a ceremony at the Kursaal last night. On being presented with the award by the festival director, José Luis Rebordinos, Depp said that he was deeply gratified, and that it was a great honour to receive it. “You’re the only reason I’m here, because cinema is for the people, and the people are the boss. It all comes down to that. This is a festival that stays true to the very idea of what a film festival should be about. Thanks to the Festival and the entire city for this warm welcome”, the actor declared.
After congratulating the “wonderful” Marion Cotillard, who on Friday received the first of this year’s Donostia Awards, Johnny Depp said he humbly accepted the award and stressed that, although hierarchy exists in any business or situation, it is the people around the hierarchy that are the most important: “Thanks to the people that have kept me inspired and kept me going, and sorry for all the trouble that you might have got into because of me”.
