Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
The Peruvian director and scriptwriter Claudia Llosa is taking part in the official selection for the first time with her first film in seven years, Distancia de Rescate – Fever Dream. Set in the countryside of Argentina, the film is a psychological mystery with the trappings of a horror story, which as the director herself says, “verges on genre cinema without going fully into it. It is based on ‘Distancia de Rescate’, the 2014 novel by
the Argentine writer Samanta Schweblin that was short-listed for the Man Booker International Prize. The screenplay is a collaboration between the novelist and director Llosa, who again pursues motherhood as a subject, as she did in her 2009 Golden Bear winner, The Milk of Sorrow, which was also nominated for the Oscar for Best foreign language film.
Asked whether her film could be classified as a horror film with supernatural elements, Claudia Llosa clarified that, “for me this film talks about the horrors of everyday life.”
