Camila sale esta noche doesn’t aim to be a faithful portrait of a generation but is inspired by the female youth movements that have emerged in Argentina, the Argentine director Inés Barrionuevo said yesterday after the screening of her fourth film which is competing for the Golden Shell here at the San Sebastián Festival.
Barrionuevo explained that she had been inspired to make her film by the youth movements in the last few years in Argentina that have to do especially with women and feminism, and with what is happening with the Green Wave protests, the movement in favour of legal abortion.
“I don’t think I aim to provide a faithful portrayal of these youngsters, but the film contains a bit of the reality of what happened in Argentina in the last decade with all these movements”, she added. The film tells the story of a strong-willed girl with firm convictions who moves from La Plata to Buenos Aires when her grandmother suddenly falls ill.
