Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
The world premiere of Woody Allen’s latest film, Rifkin’s Festival, will be opening the 68th San Sebastián Film Festival. The film is set in the city at the Festival and Allen stressed how disappointed
he was that he couldn’t attend the premiere owing to the coronavirus pandemic. He said that he had chosen to set his film here because he had such wonderful memories of the city and had been really looking forward to coming back until the virus put an end to his plans.
Rifkin’s Festival constantly pays tribute to the classics of cinema and he confesses that his love for these films is as great as it ever was. Despite the fact that he didn’t come from an intellectual background, he could still recall the effect that watching the European masterpieces in post-war New York had on him. Although they had the reputation of being difficult, he’d actually always considered the likes of Truffaut, Buñuel and Bergman to be masters of entertainment.
He also said that he wasn’t worried about whether the audience understood all the cultural references in his film, as his aim was merely to convey to people his great love for cinema as art, and for them to feel the same way.
