The Chilean director José Luis Torres Leiva explained that his latest film Vendrá la muerte y tendrá tus ojos had grown out of the short El sueño de Ana that he presented here in Zabaltegi two years ago. Torres Leiva explains that this is a project that came about, “when a few years ago various friends of mine, of my age, were dying from various illnesses. It was something that made a deep impact on me.”
The title of the film comes from one of the last poems that the Italian author Cesare Pavese ever wrote, and Torres Leiva explained that this was a poem that he had in mind throughout the process of writing the script; he thought it was a really powerful text because of the way in which it linked love and death as if they were one and the same.
