La odisea de los giles’ tells the story of a group of residents in an Argentine village who are victims of a swindle at the height of the ‘corralito’. “What happened in 2001 is written into the Argentine DNA”, Ricardo Darín said. “The fact that the country has gone through so many crises yet always somehow manages to come back from the dead may be our hallmark.” He described his country as a nation that learns from the mistakes it has made so it can somehow struggle on, and he was hopeful that they would do so once again.
Darin also stressed that although the film is not really a comedy because it is set against a really dramatic background, he reveals that they worked from the premise that they should make the most of any comic opportunities that emerged in the script.
