The Polish director, Małgorzata Szumowska, gave a press conference to discuss her first English-language film, The other lamb, which was screened yesterday in the Official Selection. It deals with the gradual loss of faith of a teenager in a nightmarish tale about an allfemale religious sect. Flanked by actresses Raffey Cassidy and Denise Gough, and producer Stephanie Wilcox, she said that it was nice to change genres after all the art-house features she had made and to have the chance to try something different. Her producer said that she loved how the director takes you into her world and deals with themes like gender and religion without spoon-feeding you, while Denise Gough explained that she felt that the film was more about abusive toxic masculinity rather than religious fundamentalism itself.
