Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Justin Webster started out writing non-fiction before making documentaries and in the last few years he has also worked on various television series. He’s now presenting a new series of six episodes, El fiscal, la presidenta y el espía, in the Zabaltegi-Tabakalera section which deals with all the ramifications of the murder or possible suicide of the prosecutor Alberto Nisman in Argentina who was investigating Cristina Fernández de Kirchner’s government for colluding with Iran in covering up a terrorist bombing.
He said that he was especially interested in the case because it was a really complex story that he initially envisaged would be enormously complicated.
However he thought it might be a way of clearing up what happened although there is still a great deal of confusion and paranoia surrounding the case.
Getting closer to the truth is the idea that he follows as a basic principle in his work and this is how he conceives non-fiction. Although he acknowledges that fiction should also search for the truth, he feels that it is in documentaries that truly original work can be done.
He also dismisses the idea that the documentary is only for a minority. “I really believe in the civilizing possibilities of good non-fiction series in the age of Twitter.”
