Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Benjamin Naishtat came to the Festival in 2014 with Historia del miedo that took part in Horizontes Latinos, and on this occasion one of the major talents in new Argentine cinema will be competing in the Official Selection in San Sebastián with Rojo.
The film deals with the violence that was an everyday occurrence in the Argentine of the 1970s. The director explained that, “we knew what we wanted to talk about and how we wanted to do it. We didn’t want to show tanks or armies, but to focus on the way that civil society acted at that time, which had never been done before in Argentine cinema.” Although he himself was too young to have lived through that period, his family had to go into exile because they were persecuted and had their house burnt down.
Actor Darío Grandinetti was impressed with how such a young director could be so clear about what things were like at that time. “It’s amazing how he chooses to talk about such a dark period in our country.”
