Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
After winning the Golden Shell for best film and the Silver Shell for best director in San Sebastián in 2014 for Magical Girl, Carlos Vermut is once again competing in the Official Selection with his third feature Quién te cantará. This time around Najwa Nimri plays Lila Cassen, a famous singer who hasn’t performed for 10 years and has lost her memory after an accident, while Eva Llorach takes the role of an obsessive admirer of hers, who imitates her in a karaoke bar and is given the job of teaching Lila how to be Lila again. Her efforts soon lapse into a game of stolen identities, in which it is difficult to tell where one of them begins and the other ends.
Najwa Nimri explained that the director got them to synchronise with each other by making them dance and sing in exactly the same way and wear identical wigs. She said that she’s played some pretty heavy characters in her time, but that this was one of the most incredible things she had done, and she’d been really lucky to have worked with Vermut. Eva Llorach agreed that it was a really strange way to get to know each other and connect, and confessed that it was complicated to create her character, but especially difficult to step out of it.
