Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Jorge Guerricaechevarría has worked with Álex de la Iglesia as co-screenwriter on numerous films, and has also regularly collaborated with Daniel Monzón. He’s often been to San Sebastián to watch and present films, but this is the first time he’s seen the entire Festival from the inside as a member of the Official Jury.
Although as a scriptwriter he would be expected to focus on the structure of films when judging them, he says that he tends to look more at the characters, because he thinks that even if the story is good, if there’s no empathy between the audience and the characters then the film won’t work.
He also thinks that the relative anonymity that screenwriters enjoy isn’t necessarily a bad thing as it helps you to keep your feet on the ground and not to lose your sense of reality, which is very important for a writer.
