Vie Sauvage by the French director Cédric Kahn was screened in the Official Section yesterday. It is based on the story of a father who lived with his two children on the run from the police after he refused to give them back to his ex-wife who had won custody. The director said that he had read about the story in the press in 2008 and immediately thought it would be ideal for a film, as it seemed so incredible that someone could disappear for eleven years with two children in a country like France. He revealed he had soon thought that Mathieu Kassovitz would be perfect in the role of the father although he was convinced that he wouldn’t accept the part. In actual fact he agreed immediately. Kahn stressed how comfortable Kassowitz looked in the role, and almost had the feeling he wasn’t acting.
