Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Shortly before receiving his Donostia Award yesterday, Benicio del Toro accompanied director Andrea Di Stefano and various members of the cast in a press conference after the screening of Escobar: Paradise Lost in the Pearls section. He said that it was a great honour to receive the award as it was the first time he’s received one for his entire career, and that he was especially thrilled to receive it here as this Festival was one of those that he liked the most. As for his role as Pablo Escobar, he said that he didn’t judge his characters: “For a lot of people in Colombia, Escobar was a kind of Robin Hood, but for most people he was a monster. I learnt all I could about him and appreciated the pain hecaused, but once we started shooting I left all that behind me and just restricted myself to acting. It’s all about acting; not turning into the character.”
This was the first film that Andrea Di Stefano had directed and he explained that he hoped he had respected the audience’s feelings because there were a lot of people who Escobar had really hurt: “I think you can see his good and bad side.”A.O.
