Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
The Chilean director, Cristián Jiménez, had his first feature Optical Illusions premiered at San Sebastián and he’s currently at the Festival presenting his latest film Voice Over in the Official section. It‘s all about family secrets, but it’s especially about the inner stress that builds up when you don’t say things openly.
“I always thought Voice over was about a lack of communication, but I soon realized, the young director said, “that in actual fact there is something that happens when things are left unsaid, and go unmentioned, and this is what is mportant about this film: something’s happening here and it’s important to talk about it even though it bothers us.”
The film is a series of minor stories all linked together around the focal point of Sofia, the character played by Ingrid Isensee, who pointed out that, “she’s a woman who needs to understand, listen to people and get her life together in order to be able to move on.” Jiménez added, “if people who go through painful experiences don’t talk about them, then they linger on, ready to pop up at any time.”
