Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Fernando Bovaira has been coming to the Festival for about twenty years now, first as Director of Contents at Sogecable and then as a producer of films that were competing here such as Caníbal last year. He’s visiting this year in a quite different capacity as he is the president of the Official Jury, and acknowledges that it’s a real honour and a job with a lot of responsibility. The criteria he follows when judging films is that making a good film is so complex that rating it must be the sum of many things: “first of all it has to work on an emotional level and then intellectually, and only when it manages to do this can the magic of cinema emerge.” As for the role of a producer in the success of a film, he thinks that rather than interfering with the director’s role, what a producer needs to do is to achieve a degree of mutual understanding with the director. “Our job above all is about bringing the film closer to the reality of the market.”
