Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Affection and loyalties play a leading role in Hirokazu Kore-Eda’s creative universe. Given that he says that a lot of films are inspired by his own experiences in life, you might think that both virtues also form part of the Japanese director’s personality. His affection and loyalty for San Sebastián are beyond any doubt, as he is a frequent visitor to the Festival, whether he’s got a film in competition or not. This year he’s brought Like Father, Like Son to the Pearls section. It’s a film that was well received this year at Cannes and offers a moving reflection on “the learning process involved in being a father.”
Kore-eda recognizes that shooting Still Walking was a turning point in his career, as this was when he realized that he felt comfortable projecting aspects of his own experience onto his characters, and he admits that his forthcoming projects will probably continue to explore similar avenues.
