Itziar Nogeras, an expert in the Basque language and experienced cultural promoter, holds a Diploma in Teacher training from the University of the Basque Country. She is a graduate in the Basque Language and a MA in the Transmission of Culture from the University of Mondragón. Nogeras (San Sebastian, 1966) has dedicated a large part of her professional life to the Elhuyar Foundation. This institution, born in 1972 as a cultural association with the objective to combine science and Basque, became a foundation in 2002, the same year Nogeras assumed its general direction, remaining in the position until 2012. During this time, the present Director General of San Sebastian 2016 participated in different projects, such as the creation of an encyclopaedic dictionary in Basque, entitled ‘Diccionario Elhuyar euskera-castellano’ and the development of plans for the use of the language in companies and institutions throughout the Basque Country.
