Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
The Scottish actor Ewan McGregor became the youngest-ever recipient of a Donostia Award at the Kursaal last night. He received the statuette from the director of his latest film The Impossible, Juan Antonio Bayona, who stressed the enthusiasm and tremendous humanity that McGregor had shown in the varied roles he had played throughout his career.
After receiving the award McGregor thanked the Festival and acknowledged how overwhelming it was to come here and receive so much affection from Spanish film-goers, and also recalled how the reception he had been given after Moulin Rouge was screened in San Sebastián had made him feel like a rock star. As acting was a communal activity, he took great pride in all the directors and actors he had worked with, and had especially warm words for his wife, the production designer, Eve Mavrakis, who he said had been with him at every step of his career.
