Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Two very different projects, the Rumanian film Rocker and the French animated film Le jour des Corneilles, were screened for the first time in the New Directors section yesterday. The first reflects the dramatic situation that many families face with children with drug habits. In this case director Marian Crisan wanted to show how rock music provides a link that brings together a father and his drug-addicted son. He was delighted to be able to screen his film here as the economic situation in Rumania currently made it very difficult to get work widely distributed.
Le Jour des Corneilles on the other hand deals with the fears that children have that their parents find hard to resolve. Director Jean-Christophe Dessaint has worked in South Korea, where the film has already been a hit. He stressed how important it was to have big names like Jean Reno to put the voices to the characters in order to get an animated film across to a bigger audience.
