Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
At the press conference he gave yesterday after the screening of Dans la maison in the Official Section, the French director François Ozon revealed that what had impressed him about the play “El chico de la última fila” by Juan Mayorga that his film was based on was that it offered the possibility of going in any direction he wanted: drama, suspense or comedy. He also loved its ironic tone that had allowed him to deflate some rather heavy existential subjects.
The playwright himself, who thanked Ozon for inviting him to the Kursaal, praised Ozon’s adaptation of his work for how it captured the spirit of his play. He thought that it was about the need to be creative because life wasn’t enough. “We all need to be told stories like Scheherezade’s Sultan, and the film lets each member of the audience write their own film.” He also praised Fabrice Luchini’s performance as the jaded teacher who he said had taken his work to a higher dimension.
Luchini felt that the film had three intellectual levels: immediate pleasure, the chance to reflection on it for anyone who wanted to, and the aim of providing entertainment, and he agreed with Ozon and Mayorga that Dans la maison ought to make people reflect on the kind of film they were watchin grather than just being passive consumers.
