Austrian director Jessica Hausner is currently forming part of the New Directors Jury here at San Sebastián. She says that she always likes to reflect on her own work and on other people’s films and being a juror is a great opportunity to discuss films with others. She doesn’t
think it makes much difference when judging films whether she watches them with an audience or on her own, and although she can’t talk about the films she’s seen, what’s she is looking for in work by new directors is originality and a personal voice, and in general she is pleased to see that more and more young directors are courageous enough to make films that are slower and less commercial.
