Ulises, the debut film by Chilean director Oscar Godoy tells the story of the misadventures of
a Peruvian emigrant in Santiago. However, the director stresses that this is not a typical story
about the subject of emigrants. “My aim is to show the subject of emigration from a different perspective,” Godoy explained yesterday when he presented his film. “I think that all this business of the long-suffering emigrant who you feel sorry for is really paternalistic and this
is not the vision I have of the main character; the idea I have is that he’s someone who has travelled in search of something more.”
