The scriptwriter, actress and director Ana Katz was thrilled to return t o the S an S ebastián Festival yesterday to present her latest film Los Marziano, a bitter-sweet f amily c omedy about two brothers who haven’t spoken to each other for years but are forced to get together again.
She explained, “I wrote the script together with my brother. It was a project which shows a great deal of love and respect for the characters, because I thought that the fraternal ties that existed between the brothers as adults were complex. I didn’t want to make fun o f them; what I wanted to do was depict something that I found painful but which at the same time would be funny to a certainextent.” The director also makes the settings reveal to the audience as much as the charactersdo. For example, Luis, the rich brother lives in a gated luxuryestate: “ I was interested in the idea of a place where they hope to totally control everythingand guarantee peace and quiet; but for the simple reason that people live there, nothing can ever be perfect.”
