The Portuguese director Joao Canijo, presented his latest film Sangue do meu sangue in the Official Section yesterday. It deals with the relationships between a series of characters living on the outskirts of Lisbon, and shows the unconditional love of a mother for her daughter and of an aunt for her nephew and the lengths that these women are prepared to go to protect the ones they love.
The director explained how: “the only thing that any of us want in life is to be loved unconditionally, and he added that “the deepest love is the kind that doesn’t need reasons to exist.”
He also revealed that he had tried to portray the crisis that Portugal is currently immersed in through the family that is at the heart of his film.
Canijo also revealed that at the same time as he was shooting the film, he also made a pedagogical documentary about the process of creating Sangue do meu sangue, which will be used in film schools.
