Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
There is no nostalgia, but there is a degree of irony and affection in the way that Julie Delpy approaches the family in her latest film Le Skylab, which she has not only directed but also scripted and acted in. She used her own memories to portray a family who get together in Brittany to celebrate their grandmother’s birthday.
The French director explained that the family was something that was really important for her, although she couldn’t really explain the reason why; she has contradictory feelings about them and her own family on occasions drives her up the wall.
Just like the little girl in her film she had a very liberal upbringing: “My parents, who were ultra-liberals, even anarchists, brought me up like a wild animal. They gave me a lot of freedom and didn’t hide anything from me.”
She also revealed that what she had aimed to do was to break down the barriers between
the audience and the screen so that, “they have the feeling they are eating and dining
with the characters.”
