Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
The Brazilian directors, Clarissa Campolina and Helvécio Marins Jr. have brought Girimunho,“
a cheap- little film,” in their own words, to San Sebastián this year. The story of Bastu, the 81-year-old woman who is the main character, is based on real events in a remote village in the North of Minas Gerais. The directors got to know the village and were fascinated by the old woman’s personality and by the place itself and this was the starting point for shooting the film. In what is their first feature they preferred not to use professional actors, and working with Bastu and the other villagers allowed them to achieve a degree of naturalism that they thought was essential.
