Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Yesterday Simon Arthur presented Silver Tongues, a film that tells the story of a couple that adopt different identities and con people in a series of different situations. “I guess the film is about con artists, but for me it’s more about pretending to be somebody else”, the Scottish director who is now based in New York, explained.
The idea for the film came from his experience as a security guard at a brothel, while he was working as a scriptwriter in the UK. “The people I met exaggerated their personalities. The prostitutes had fake names, and everyone was making up identities”.
The behavior of the two characters of the film is very unusual and cruel at times, as they toy with the lives of people they meet at random. “They are sociopaths that have no empathy for anyone. They are just enjoying the game”.
This powerful story is the director’s debut feature, based on a previous short with the same title.
