Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
I wasn’t interested in dance at all. Dance was not for me. (And classical ballet still is…) “Include me out!” I literally had to be forced to go see my first piece by Pina Bausch. That was long ago, in Venice, in 1985.We were there on holidays, and my girl friend at the time wanted to take me to a double bill of “Café Müller” and “Le Sacre du Printemps”.
Well, I finally went along, thinking this was going to be a waste of time. I was in for the greatest surprise of my life! What I saw and experienced blew me away completely. It moved me like nothing I had ever seen before. After ten minutes I was sitting on the edge of my seat, in tears. This was not at all what I had been imagining as “dance”. This really concerned me. I felt it in my whole body! Pedro Almodovar knows what I am talking about. His magnificent “Habla con ella” opens with an excerpt from “Café Müller”…
Anyway, from that day on I was an unconditional fan of Pina Bausch. I met her soon afterwards and we became close friends over the time. And started to think about a common film, for more than twenty years…
