Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Two Mexican films will be opening the Horizontes Latinos section this year: Asalto al cine, the debut feature by Iria Gómez Concheiro and Miss Bala by Gerardo Naranjo, which has already
been a big hit at the box office in his country.
The winner of the Films in Progress Industry Award at last year’s Festival, Bernardo Arellano’s
Entre la noche y el día, is also among the thirteen films that have been selected to compete for the Horizontes Award this year. Apart from these three Mexican films, the Festival has also made a firm commitment to new Latin American directors as there will be contributions from Brazil, both debut features set in the countryside, and several operas primas by Argentine and Chilean directors.
Two films from Colombia are also included in this section;both o f which ar e s et against the backdrop of the violence that is r avaging the country, while a love story from Chile and a Colombian-Ecuadorian coproduction round off the selection.
