Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Yet again Zabaltegi is divided into three main sections: Pearls, New Directors and Specials.
The Pearls section of Zabaltegi focuses on films that have already been successful at other festivals, and will be officially opened today by Terence Mallick’s The Tree of Life.
The New Directors section includes a comprehensive sample of international films by directors making their debut or second film, which along with three films from the Official Section will bee competing for the Kutxa-New Directors Prize.
Finally, the Specials section this year has more films than ever ranging from musical documentaries to cartoons and fictional work. José Ángel Herrero-Velarde, a member of the Management Board, also stressed how the new “Midnight Specials” sessions, would be screening some rather atypical horror or erotic films.
Another regular feature of the Festival will once again be the Zabaltegi get-togethers held in the Sala Club in the Victoria Eugenia at 14.00 each day.
