Hernani, 1976. Holds a degree in Fine Arts and defines herself as a bertsolari (improviser of Basque verse), a profession to which she has been powerfully drawn since a very young age. Maialen won the Basque Country Bertsolari Championship in 2009.
Among other activities, she has contributed to the Basque media as a columnist. She is currently working on the Ornitorrinkus project, the aim of which is to merge the art of bertsolarism with experimental music. She recently published the research work Hau koaderno bat zen as part of the postgraduate course, Euskal Kulturgintzaren Transmisioa.
She also participated in the film Bertsolari, to be released at the 59th edition of the San Sebastian Festival.
