Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
The Basque film Izarren Argia (entitled Stars to wish upon in English) tells the littleknown story of the women who were locked up in a prison near Mutriku after the Spanish Civil War for having supported the Spanish Republic. They not only lost their freedom but also had their children taken away from them to be brought up by Falangist families.
Director Mikel Rueda stressed how difficult it was to find documentation about what happened in the prison, and said that it was only when they were able to speak to exprisoners who had actually been there that the project really got off the ground.
