Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
The Great Vázquez is a Spanish comedy about the man who was Spain’s top cartoonist in the1960s. At the press conference after it was screened in the Official Section yesterday, its director Óscar Aibar said it was a prize for his film just to be screened at the Festival: “it’s a really funny film that has been made very seriously; it’s a comedy that doesn’t patronise its audience looking for easy laughs.” He also ironically praised Vázquez as, “the worst role model I could have had in my youth; someone who never paid for anything, who made you consider whether it was worth studying for five years and mortgaging your life to pay the bills....he ruined my life”
The star of the film,Santiago Segura, defined Vázquez as the Velázquez of comics and possibly the most interesting figure ever to have worked in the medium in Spain.
